A basecamp is not the summit. It's where you stop performing the journey and start preparing for it. Where you look at the terrain ahead with honest eyes. Where the map you inherited gets set beside the one you actually need.

This is seven days in Bali doing exactly that — with the people, the place, and the framework to do it right.

Not a retreat.
Not a workshop.
A gathering.

RE:CODE Basecamp: Bali is a small-group immersive experience built around the core frameworks of The Reinventionalist — and set in one of the most quietly confrontational landscapes on earth.

Bali has a way of stripping down the noise. The pace is different. The light is different. You find yourself thinking differently within 48 hours — and that's before we start doing any actual work.

Seven days. Twelve people. One guide who's spent 23 years in rooms where people either hold together or they don't. Real conversations. Actual terrain. No performance required.

You'll leave with a cleaner map — not a new identity handed to you by a stranger, but a clearer read of the one you've been building all along.

All-Inclusive

Everything in the field kit.

Accommodation

7 nights in a curated private villa compound in the Ubud region — shared common spaces, individual rooms, open-air pavilions designed for real conversation.

Mandara Transportation

All ground transfers throughout the week — airport pickups, daily excursions, evening movements. Private vehicles, local drivers who know the island.

Daily Meals

Breakfast and dinner daily at villa. Curated lunches on excursion days. Local, seasonal, thoughtfully sourced — not catered conference food.

Reinventionalist Sessions

Six guided group sessions with Scott — working directly through the Terrain/Train/Track framework, Inherited Map Audit, and your own RE:CODE process.

Field Excursions

Four curated off-site experiences across the week — volcanic hiking, sacred water temple immersion, traditional craft and culture, open-water adventure.

1:1 Field Debrief

A private 60-minute session with Scott mid-week. Not coaching. A directed conversation about what you're actually carrying and where it came from.

RE:CODE Field Book

A curated physical workbook designed for the week — journal prompts, framework maps, space for the actual thinking. Yours to keep.

Post-Gathering Access

60 days of The Reinventionalist community access post-trip. Monthly group call with all RE:CODE Basecamp alumni for the following quarter.

The Map

Seven Days. Seven Layers.

Each day is a distinct terrain — designed to move you through disorientation toward orientation.

01Day
Arrival · Orientation
The Arrival Survey
Airport pickup by Mandara, transfer to the villa compound. Afternoon free — no agenda, no icebreakers, no group programming. You arrive as yourself. Evening: first communal dinner and an open conversation: why are you here, and what are you not saying about that?

02Day
Framework · The Inherited Map
Where Your Map Came From
Morning session: The Inherited Map Audit. Working through the maps you didn't draw — family, culture, profession, identity performance. Afternoon: guided walk through Ubud's rice terraces. Not a tourist walk — a thinking walk. Evening: small-group debrief. What did you notice?

03Day
Terrain · Physical Challenge
Mount Batur at Dawn
Pre-dawn departure for the volcanic summit of Mount Batur — a 2-hour pre-sunrise ascent. Active volcano, crater lake below, clouds at eye level. No motivational talk required. The mountain does the work. Post-hike brunch in the caldera. Afternoon: rest, 1:1 field debrief sessions begin.

04Day
Framework · Terrain / Train / Track
Reading Yourself Honestly
The center of the week. Full-day session split across morning and late afternoon — the complete Terrain/Train/Track framework as a working diagnostic, applied to where each person actually is right now. Honest, specific, non-prescriptive. Afternoon free. Evening: Balinese traditional ceremony observation (Kecak fire dance or temple ceremony, seasonal).

05Day
Water · Ritual · Sacred Space
Tirta Empul & The Coast
Morning visit to Tirta Empul — Bali's sacred water purification temple. Participation optional, observation always welcome. Afternoon transfer to the southern coast: open-water swimming, surfing option, cliff path walk at Uluwatu. The physical world doing its thing. Evening: final group dinner in the village.

06Day
Integration · The RE:CODE
Drawing Your Own Map
The final working session: RE:CODE. Not about reinventing yourself — about deciding which parts of your existing map are accurate and which were drawn by someone else. Individual written work followed by optional sharing. Afternoon: free time in Ubud — traditional silversmithing workshop available, or open hours. Evening: closing dinner, no agenda.

Departure · Orientation
Leave as You Are
Morning: informal breakfast, final conversations, no structured programming. You leave when you need to leave. Mandara handles all departure transfers to Ngurah Rai International. One instruction for the journey home: notice the first story you tell someone about where you've been.

The Architecture

Three currents running through the week.

01 / Framework

Reinventionalist Sessions

The intellectual and reflective core of the week. Working directly through the frameworks developed across The Reinventionalist — not as content consumption but as active tools applied to your actual situation. Small group, honest room, no performance.

02 / Terrain

Bali as Environment

The physical, cultural, and natural world of Bali isn't backdrop — it's curriculum. Volcanic terrain, sacred water, ancient ceremony, dense jungle, open ocean. Environments that ask something of you without saying a word.

03 / People

The Right Room

Twelve people maximum. Drawn from the Reinventionalist community — which means they already speak a shared language around change, identity, and the kind of honest self-examination most rooms avoid. You won't need to explain yourself from scratch.

Scott Bain.
RE:CODE Basecamp Host.

Scott Bain spent 23 years as an urban firefighter and paramedic — in rooms where the gap between who someone performed themselves to be and who they actually were got closed in a hurry.

He now lives between Bali and Spain. He established The Angin Group as the venture architecture behind his work, hosts The Reinventionalist — a podcast and media platform built around identity transition and reinvention literacy — and advises Mandara Bali, a curated group travel company he helped build. He is also developing Human & Here, a premium apparel brand, and Warung Amprin, a Balinese restaurant concept rooted in the island's food culture.

He's not a coach. Not a therapist. Not a guru. He's a careful observer who asks the questions most people are grateful someone finally asked — and knows how to hold the room when the answers turn out to be complicated.

From The Reinventionalist
"Most people don't need more information about who they could become. They need a cleaner read of who they already are — and the honest company to do that work in."
